On inspiration

Inspiration is a funny thing. It can come from so many places and people. I didn’t really understand inspiration until a few years ago when I started really exploring the blogging world. I know it probably sounds crazy to say that blogging is what set the inspiration machine in motion, but it’s true. People tend to shy away from the internet, especially if they’ve had a bad experience. But for me, the internet has become a resource for meeting some of the most amazing people, even though I haven’t met most of them in real life. Not only have I met new people, but I’ve learned a lot about people I already know, simply because they blog.

Because I consider myself an artist, even though a lot of people don’t think I am, I tend to gravitate toward a few specific types of blogs and seek inspiration from there. My favorite blogs are those by fellow writers. There are so many talented people out there who exude wisdom. As a new writer who hasn’t been published yet, I love reading about other people’s experiences as they go through the process of becoming published, of finally seeing years of hard work on the shelf at their local Barnes and Noble. I eagerly wait for the day that happens for me. Being a writer is a constant growth and learning process, but it’s so much fun being able to do what I love and knowing that other people are going through the same things I am.

I also enjoy craft, photography and home design blogs. I know, I know. I don’t have a home of my own, but someday I will. I have pretty solid ideas of how I want things to look. I especially gravitate toward blogs that use vintage items in their décor. There are so many great pieces out there and I love that people are finding creative ways to repurpose things in their homes. I dream of someday having an entire room for books and a great space for writing.

Lest anyone think I am attached to my computer 24/7, please know that I am definitely not. There are many other places where I seek and find inspiration. I find it in the books I read, in the people I spend time with, in the conversations I have with friends. I have my best ideas in the shower or when I’m walking to get somewhere. I find inspiration when I sit in the synagogue on Shabbat and hear my Rabbi (English accent and all) share wisdom from my forefathers and from the great book that is the Torah. (I could do a whole post about the inspiration I find from being Jewish, and maybe I will. We’ll see). I find inspiration in photography, in music, in movies, in TV shows.

It is my hope that I give something back to all the people who have inspired me and that they are able to take away a little inspiration from my writings (or my crafts or my photos). I love what I do and can’t wait to see where all the opportunity and inspiration takes me in the future.
